Plans revealed for number plate recognition cameras at busy shopping centre

New parking charges and length of stay restrictions are set to come into effect at one of Merseyside's most popular retail outlets.

Plans submitted to Sefton Council would see 'maximum stay' signs, along with security cameras, installed in the parking area at Aintree Shopping Park.

There would also be number plate recognition devices.

Currently, the free and unrestricted parking available is attractive to both shoppers and commuters - given the site's close proximity to both Old Roan and Aintree rail stations .

But under the proposals, cameras will be installed at the main and rear entry and exit points to the retail park, on Ormskirk Road, to capture the front and back plates of vehicles.

There will be a maximum stay of three hours - with no return within an hour.

Park owners are seeking permission for these parking measures to run until June 2024.

The plans will be decided upon by Sefton Council's planning committee in due course.
