Plans revealed for new Ancient Greece-themed escape rooms in the Lace Market

A Stapleford couple plan to open a new escape room facility in the Lace Market featuring settings ranging from Ancient Greece to the Amazon Rainforest.

They want to open Escape Stations in the basement of Gothic House, in Barker Gate, which used to house a Greek restaurant.

Thomas Armstrong, 37, who currently works in retail, explained the project had been a "pipe dream" for the last 18 months.

"I started to take it seriously 12 month ago," he said.

"We are not going to duplicate anything. We are the newest people on the block.

"We want to make sure we compliment the existing variety of quality rooms in Nottingham.

"The wife thinks I am bonkers. But she's also excited we can do something.

"The driving force here is creating something that is going to put a smile on people's faces.

"This is not about becoming filthy rich, this is about doing something nice you enjoy that brings happiness to people."

Mr Armstrong, who has two children, has applied to change the use of the basement of the building.

If the application is approved, the facility will sit underneath the Anoki Indian restaurant, near the Motorpoint Arena.

The facility is expected to include five rooms and three of the themes have already been decided.

One room will be set in Ancient Greece, where players will be set "tasks" by Greek gods.

Another will be based in the kitchen where players will have to complete tasks set by a chef.

The theme for the third room has been devised by Mr Armstrong's wife, Lizzie, 38, set in the Amazon Rainforest.

Players will have to attempt to make their way out of the rooms within 50 to 60 minutes.

People will have to book in advance to take part.

Mr Armstrong said the rooms will be realistic to the settings.

He said: "There are three rooms nailed on - the other two are going to be dynamic, depending on how the other three rooms are received by the players.

"The idea is that we should be opening up the first room before Christmas this year, room two in the next year and room three in the spring next year."

Once the facility has opened, a number of jobs are expected to be created.
