Plans revealed for huge theme park The London Resort, dubbed Britain’s answer to Disneyland

New details of the planned theme park dubbed Britain’s answer to Disneyland have been revealed, and it’s shaping up to be one of the most ambitious London attractions ever.

The London Resort will cover 535 acres of the Swanscombe Peninsula near Dartford, consisting of an amusement park and water resort on the banks of the Thames.

The build, which could begin as early as 2021, marks the biggest construction of its kind in Europe since Disneyland Paris in 1992.

The planned resort will be three times larger than the biggest existing park the UK, with a space equivalent to 136 Wembley Stadiums. There are two parks planned as part of the same development, with the second opening five years after the first.

The first artist’s impressions of the plans show the scale of the resort, which is split into distinct sections. One area, called the Jungle, will be filled with ruins of a lost Mesoamerican civilisation. The Studio is another area, with rides based on blockbuster movies and a design paying homage to Hollywood.

There’s also the sci-fi zone Starport, which is being designed to look like a travel port from the 23rd century. The designs also show the High Street, a central plaza packed with shops and restaurants and leading off towards hotels and the water park.

Rides for the park are currently being created with Paramount Pictures, the BBC and ITV Studios, with a focus on "next generation" experiences.

The public consultation is underway and the plans for the park are expect to be submitted later this year. The London Resort is planning to open in 2024, with a second park added as part of the development in 2029.
