Plans revealed for flats on site of former West Lothian pub

Plans have been revealed to build over 20 affordable homes on the site of a former pub.

The proposals have been lodged with West Lothian Council to build 21 new flats at The Firs, Langside Gardens in Polbeth by Livingston-based F&M Cortellessa.

The site of Firs pub and restaurant was demolished due to being a health and safety risk and the developer hopes to build 18 two bedroom flats and bed and three one bedroom flats.

The pub was closed in 2016 despite a campaign from locals to save it before owner Franco Cortellesa announced plans to demolish it to make way for houses.

It was bought by Mr Cortellesa in 2008 and was latterly leased out.

In 2018 councillors on the Development Management Committee backed revised plans by Mr Cortellesa to build on the site.

A year later, £250,000 worth of cannabis was seized following police raids on the derelict pub and abandoned chip shop.
