Plans put forward for new 'build your own slice' pizza place to open on Glasgow's Trongate

A pizza place that lets you design and build your own slices is hoping to open a second restaurant in Glasgow's city centre.

Planning permission was sought for Project Pizza to open an eatery at 9 Renfield Street last month.

Now, they have put forward an application to Glasgow City Council to open a second branch in a vacant unit at 173 Trongate.

The popular pizza place already holds a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence and won the Independent Casual Dining Restaurant of the Year award in 2016.

It described itself as "empowering you to design and build your very own bespoke Pizza", adding: "It begins with our artisan dough, a unique 12 Inch thin Crust which we press out before your eyes. We then apply your choice of our own signature Red Sauce, BBQ Sauce or an all-white olive oil base.

Move on to choose the cheese you desire and top it off with a selection of our daily prepared variety of 30 plus toppings. Our ingredients are of the highest quality, chopped fresh daily in house, together with our artisan pizza dough; this means our pizzas are guilt free and healthy."

The plans promise to boost Glasgow city centre's nighttime economy.

A statement contained in the papers which will go before members of the council's planning committee reads: "The provision of a Class 3 use in this location will benefit the city centre's evening economy, particularly given the proximity of the site to the main shopping thoroughfares of Buchanan Street and Sauchiehall Street.

"The proposed Class 3 use would bring a vacant unit into reuse and would encourage visitors and residents to dwell longer, thus improving the viability and vitality of the area."
