Dublinbikes will be inaccessible from 6pm this evening (Monday, 18th January) until 5am on Tuesday morning (19th January).
Essential workers that use Dublinbikes should take note that they won't be available for use and should find an alternative method of transport if required during the time when bikes are not available.
This is happening as dublinbikes are upgrading their IT infrastructure to be compatible with a new app and website to come on stream.
In order for the work to be carried out safely and in line with current health guidelines, the service must temporarily shut down.The app will be more user-friendly and will have new and improved features.
Dublin City Council tweeted: “Please note that due to a system upgrade dublinbikes will not be available from 6pm tomorrow, Monday 18th until 5am on Tuesday 19th.
“See dublinbikes.ie for further information. Apologies for any inconvenience caused. #dublinbikes #Dublin.”
Michael Rossiter, Senior Executive Planner told Dublin Live: “The operator of dublinbikes is upgrading the internal station IT infrastructure in order to be compatible with a new app and website to come on stream tomorrow.
“The new app is more user friendly and will allow subscribers to release a bike from their smartphone for the first time as well as providing other new and improved features.
He said: “The work required is complex and necessitates the interruption of the service for several hours in order that the work be carried out safely in line with current health guidelines, etc.
“The introduction of the new app and website coincides with the official commencement of the new commercial sponsorship of the scheme.”
Full details of the change and sponsorship will be available tomorrow morning on the Dublin City Council or dublinbikes website.
