Plans lodged to turn empty North Tyneside shop into a cocktail lounge

An empty North Tyneside shop could be transformed into a cocktail lounge if fresh plans are approved by council bosses.

Home Bar Whitley Bay Ltd is behind proposals to change the use of the former Alphabet Emporium on Victoria Terrace into a bar.

If the plans are given the go-ahead the new boozer will seat up to 26 customers and will be open Wednesday to Friday 4pm to 11pm, 2pm to 11pm on Saturday and 2pm to 9pm on Sunday.

An application lodged with North Tyneside Council said a range of works is planned to the interior of the premises as well as "cosmetic" changes to the exterior.

It said: "Internal works will be undertaken, which will include sound proofing to the ceiling.

"External cosmetic changes to the shop front will include painting and new signage the premises will not have a kitchen and no cooked food will be or sold on the premises."

The document said that, in terms of effluent, the development would create "sewage waste from two toilets and sinks. As well as liquid waste from the bar; water/ very low volumes of alcohol, water from glass wash machine to be discharged into main sewer".

North Tyneside Council's planning department is set to decide on the proposals in February.
