A former social club in Stanley could be transformed into offices under new plans lodged with Durham County Council.
In July, a planning application was submitted for the Hibernian Club off Station Road.
According to planning documents, the working men’s club has been vacant for around a decade.
New proposals from commercial firm NWR Hygiene Group aim to give the building a facelift to make way for new offices and storage.
A planning application submitted to the council states the offices could be used between 8am-6pm, seven days a week.
A statement from the applicant goes on to say: “This building has not been used for many years and [we] want to improve [it] by replacing all windows and cleaning the outside of the building to a good state as [there are] currently lots of smashed windows and the stonework is all going black with mould and water damage.
“Internally we would convert the ground floor to storage and a kitchen for our staff, [the] first floor we would turn into open-plan offices.”
NWR Hygiene Group supplies commercial washroom and waste equipment and services across the UK and is headquartered at the Number One Industrial Estate in Consett.
It also has an office at the Kirkleatham Business Park in Redcar, near Middlesbrough.
If the office plans are approved for the former Hibernian Club in Stanley, around eight to ten staff members would be based at the site.
A final decision on the application is expected by the end of August following a period of consultation.
