A new home could be created in part of an old bank building in Callander.
Craigower Estates Ltd have submitted an application to Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park planners seeking a partial change of use of the former Royal Bank of Scotland at 55 Main Street.
Recently the Observer told how Callander Community Development Trust (CCDT) directors had sought to purchase the larger building to turn it into a visitor information hub, however Callander Community Council has asked for the plans to be suspended until a full public consultation has been carried out.
However, the Craigower Estates application relates only to a rear extension of the building.
In documents submitted with their application, agents said: “The land’s most recent use was a bank building with offices, the property has lay vacant for several years. After placing the entire building on the market, a feasible option was found to separate the building from the rear extension.
“The proposed option for the property is to separate the rear extension from the main building, including utilities and services. The single-storey rear extension is to be converted from an office and kitchen space to form a single two-bedroom dwelling, with new separate water, gas, and electric supplies.
“Existing common means of access to the site via Ancaster Square will be utilised for access to and from the proposed dwelling entrance.
“Alterations to the existing masonry constructed building include new main entrance situated within the west elevation common yard side, new uPVC windows sympathetic to surrounding properties, Velux windows within the timber pitched roof, and internal non-load bearing wall partitioning.
“No additional parking is proposed and recycling will utilise existing provisions.”
Park planners are expected to make a recommendation on the application in due course.
