Plans lodged for new social housing on site of former EK sports centre

Plans to transform the site of a vacant East Kilbride sports centre have been submitted to South Lanarkshire Council.

The proposals would see the demolition of buildings associated with the former Greenhills Sports Centre on Stroud Road, with social housing built in its place.

Rumours circulated that the site was going to be used for new homeless unit after SLC announced that Lindsay House in the Village would eventually close its doors.

But these have been quashed with plans for the land showing proposals for 28 two-bedroom flats with associated infrastructure and landscaping lodged by Merchant Homes Partnerships Ltd.

Local residents have raised concerns in representations over parking in the area, with Maple Terrace cited as a problem area already.

That's on top of concerns an increase in traffic on Stroud Road could lead to road safety issues and loss of amenity and privacy with existing properties overlooked.
