Plans launched for Great Exhibition of Tees Valley

Plans for a Great Exhibition of Tees Valley are being launched by a new partnership aiming to promote the area’s engineering sector.

Engineering Together is organising the festival, after itself launching at an event at Ormsby Hall, in Middlesbrough, which was hosted by The Royal Society of Arts, Manufacturers and Commerce (RSA).

Following its launch, Engineering Together announced its plans for the Great Exhibition of Tees Valley, which will celebrate the historic impact engineering has had on the region as well as the future benefit the sector can bring to the local economy.

It is hoped the celebrations will mirror the success of the Great North Engineering Experience, which was first run in 2017 at the Sunderland’s Stadium of Light. The experience attracted 34,000 visitors and established Bring It On, which encourages school children to explore careers in engineering.

The plans also included a “pilot” version of a Great Exhibition of Tees Valley, which will take place in 2020.

Paula McMahon, chair of the Teesside branch of the Institution of Civil Engineers, said: “Engineering has been the lifeblood of Teesside and the North East for generations. The ICE is committed to recognising both its legacy and the opportunity it presents.

“That’s why we’re delighted to be supporting this initiative and hugely exciting exhibition, which seek to raise the profile of engineering and the Tees Valley, positively and constructively.”

Engineering Together brings together many of the region’s professional engineering institutions, groups and initiatives, as well as national partners such as the RSA.

The partnership includes 11 organisations from across the UK.

They are: The Institution of Civil Engineers; Engineering UK; The Chartered Institute of Highways and Transportation; The Cleveland Institution of Engineers; The Cleveland Scientific Institution; The Institute of Measurement and Control; The Institution of Chemical Engineers; The Institution of Engineering Technology; The Institution of Mechanical Engineers; The Institution of Structural Engineers; The Royal Society of Arts, Manufacturers and Commerce.
