Plans in place to build 'spectacularly beautiful and inspiring' memorial park in Portmarnock

A planning application has been submitted to Fingal County Council to build a new memorial park in north Dublin.

Lakeside Memorial Park located on the Trotting Track in Portmarnock will be a place where people can remember and celebrate the lives of loved ones who have died.

The plan is to shape the area as a high-quality park rather than a traditional graveyard.

It will contain burial and ash interment plots as well as memorial walls all while creating a wonderful park and public amenity for locals.

There will be extensive tree planting, water features that include a lake and river walk, sculptures and green areas where people can sit and relax.

Visitors will also be treated to ample parking on arrival with a coffee shop and a florist also located in the park.

The planning application for the space describes it as a "spectacular and beautiful landscape" that is both "inspiring and peaceful" and caters to people of all faiths and even to those with none at all.

The total cost of the project if completed will be in the region of around €8 million with an expected time frame of being opened by 2022 if plans are approved.
