Plans have been approved to build a brand new nursery in Coltness

Plans have been formally approved for the council’s new nursery in Coltness.

The nursery, on the site of former flats in Innerleithen Drive, was given the go ahead by local authority planners.

The new facility will provide 72 full-time equivalent nursery provision for three to five-year-olds with 14 new members of staff.

A total of 27 car parking spaces will be provided at the site as opposed to the recommended 38 by the council’s Road Services department.

No objections were received from members of the public or from other bodies.

The plans have been drawn up by council officers as part of North Lanarkshire’s efforts to meet Holyrood’s target of eligible two-year-olds and all three and four-year-olds having access to 1,140 hours of funded, high quality early learning via childminders and authority-run or private nurseries.

Previously a council spokesman said: “Families with young children in North Lanarkshire will soon benefit from increased nursery provision thanks to our ambitious development programme to expand childcare and early learning across the area.

“To support the plans, we are building nine new nurseries and adapting seven existing facilities.”
