A huge new college site catering for almost 1,000 pupils is planned in a Nottinghamshire village. Bramcote College, in Moor Lane in the village, will get a new lease of life if plans are approved for the demolition of the majority of the existing buildings.
A new purpose-built college campus for around 950 pupils would then be built in their place. Applicant The White Hills Park Foundation Trust has applied to Broxtowe Borough Council to transform the site – which would roughly double the number of pupil spaces on the school roll.
The plans include the demolition of the existing school and replacement buildings for 750 pupils aged between 11-16 plus 200 sixth form places. There will also be a focus on sports facilities, including a new purpose-built sports building, a new 3G artificial grass playing pitch, two turf pitches, and hard courts.
An extra 34 parking spaces would also be added to the site. The trust intends to build a new large school with a “small school feel” and it is hoped there will be “a significant opportunity for the local area to benefit”.
Council documents stated: “The building brief is for a welcoming, elegant, and inspiring design with community use embedded in the design layout. The existing school is required to remain operational throughout the construction works.”
The plans were first put in motion in 2019 with initial designs undertaken. Now Broxtowe Borough Councillors will consider the plans at a future committee meeting.
The replacement of the school was listed in the Broxtowe Part 2 Local Plan. Council documents said: “It is a sustainable development from an economic, social and environmental perspective with direct and indirect benefits to pupils and staff as well as the wider public.”
Council documents stated that an engagement event with the public was held at Bramcote College’s Summer Fair which was attended by over 300 people where feedback was “broadly positive”.
