Plans for three blocks of affordable flats to be built on former bowling green

A former bowling green in the heart of Anfield could be torn up to make way for three, two and three-storey apartment blocks containing 26 affordable homes.

Planning documents submitted to Liverpool City Council by local company Young Homes Ltd set out the plans for the development on land to the rear of The Cabbage Hall Bar and Grill on Breck Road. The three blocks, standing two and three storeys high, would contain 20 one bedroom, two person flats and six two bedroom, three person flats.

A statement submitted on behalf of Young Homes Ltd read: "We are looking to create a contemporary take on the terrace and mansion block with this scheme. We have proposed two mansion type blocks to the front of the site, which lead you into the terrace block at the back, which are bookended with three-storey units.

"We have looked to follow the character of Walton Breck Road by positioning the front dwelling blocks near to the public pavement, following the neighbouring building line.

"To stop car parking becoming the dominant feature in the street scene, we have pushed this further into the site, in-between the main blocks. This allows all flats to have their own front door and amenity space for storage of private wheelie bins hidden behind matching brickwork."

A communal car park would also be built, with strips of greenery in between spaces to stop the area being fully covered in tarmac.
