Plans for sizeable expansion at Trafford primary school and new nursery

Plans for an expansion to a Trafford primary school are due to be decided by the council tomorrow night.

The council has itself applied for an expansion to Firs Primary School’s buildings, including building a standalone nursery on site, as well as a studio extension to the dining hall, a new two-storey classroom block to the south west corner of the existing building and formation of new car park just off Firs Road.

Council officers have recommended that the application is granted.

The authority’s planning committee is due to discuss and decide on the application on the evening of Thursday October 14.

But the application has been called in to the committee because it has received more than six objections from local residents and businesses.

Locals are mostly concerned about traffic levels in the area.

One wrote to the council and summed up the concerns of others and said: “Now that the school has returned to normal usage, I have noticed that the traffic caused when parents drop off/pick up their children is as bad, if not worse, that I can remember it to be.

“I notice that the traffic assessment report was taken on a sunny afternoon in June, during the pandemic, when many children would not be in school.

“I realise that the council is not going to reject these proposed changes, but can the traffic situation be looked at seriously?”

The application will be discussed and decided on by Trafford council’s planning committee tomorrow evening (Thursday October 14) from 6.30pm.
