Plans for pop-up beach bar with fairground rides in Millennium Square

We should count ourselves lucky that we don't live far from the coast - and there are lots of things to like about the beaches near Bristol.

But the journey to and from the seaside can sometimes be a bit of a chore, especially when your mode of transport is a packed train on a sweltering day.

This means a pop-up beach bar set to launch in Bristol city centre this summer is likely to prove popular.

A licence application has been submitted to bring the pop-up attraction to Millennium Square throughout July, August and September, bringing a slice of the seaside to the city centre.

If approved, the pop-up would be home to a tropical-themed bar enclosed by a low picket fence located near We The Curious' planetarium.

The bar would provide alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks for a summer festival, reads the application, which would be a "family friendly event" comprising arts and crafts, attractions, children's funfair rides and restaurants spread across Millennium Square.

Plans for the temporary venue are headed up by James Roger of Bridgwater-based Event Attractions Limited, the same company behind the Christmas fair in Millennium Square, which was cancelled in December amid public health concerns.

Mr Roger's application states the beach bar would be Covid-compliant, which would see visitors ordering drinks on an app and using contactless payment.

Toilets would be available at the We The Curious' estates services office, it says in the plans, which would be open to the public throughout the event.

Bristol Live has contacted Event Attractions Limited for comment on the plans and is awaiting a response.
