Plans for nursery, pub and retail units revealed for 830-home development near Netherfield

Plans to build a pub, nursery and retail units at a vast housing development near Netherfield have been revealed.

More than 800 properties are expected to be built at the Teal Close site off the A612 Colwick Loop Road, between Netherfield and Stoke Bardolph.

Outline planning permission was granted for four retail units, a pub restaurant and a children's nursery at the site, which has been likened to creating a "mini-city" - and the detailed plans have now been submitted to the council.

Occupants of the retail units have not yet been disclosed, but they will not be food units.

As well as the 830 homes, the £96m Teal Close project includes plans for up to 18,000 sq m of employment land.

New leisure areas will also be built, including play pitches with changing facilities, allotments and children’s play areas. There will also be an ecology park, a new community building and a new primary school.

Residents near to the site said they were pleased that developers were creating "more than just houses".

Mary Tyrell, a 79-year-old who lives in Carlton said: "I think it's a positive sign that they're building more than just houses, which will put a strain on infrastructure already here.

"The nursery and restaurant will be in high demand. It's a huge site, so it needs those facilities in place."

Lisa Atkins, 33, of Netherfield, added: "I'm still wary of the amount of extra people it will bring to the area and wait to see what affect it will have on traffic.

"But it's good to see the plans in place. A school, nursery, care home and shops are all much needed here as more and more houses are built."

Teal Park is being developed by property firm AC Lloyd alongside retail development specialist Henry Davidson Developments (HDD).

Richard Croft, director of Nottingham based HDD, said: "AC Lloyd Commercial and Henry Davidson Developments are delighted to have submitted detailed plans for a new local centre at Teal Park, including a pub/restaurant, non-food retail and a children’s day nursery.

“This follows on from the planning permission recently granted by Gedling Borough Council for a state-of-the-art care home which together with the local centre will bring new vibrant community facilities to the residents of Netherfield.

“We have also submitted detailed plans for a new 50,000 sq ft trade park and 145,000 sq ft of industrial and warehouse units that will create fantastic employment opportunities for local people.”

The Teal Close development is situated near the Victoria Retail Park.

A Gedling Borough Council spokesperson added: “We can confirm that we’ve received planning applications for units which include a public house, commercial terrace and nursery on the site on Teal Close, Netherfield. The application is subject to approval and will go through the normal planning process before a decision can be made on whether or not permission can be granted.”

Housebuilding company Persimmon Homes has already developed the very first properties for the site.

The development is situated near to where the new £40 million Gedling Access Road is being built.
