Plans for new multi-million pound Nottinghamshire Porsche showroom tipped for approval

Plans by a car retail giant to build a new Porsche showroom and service centre in Nottinghamshire have been tipped for approval.

Pendragon, which is headquartered at Annesley, has applied to Rushcliffe Borough Council to construct the new dealership on a site north of Wheatcroft Island, at Edwalton.

It is intended to replace an existing Porsche dealership at Nottingham’s Riverside Retail Park.

That showroom will continue to run as normal for the time being but 40 members of staff could potentially transfer to the Edwalton site, where an extra 10 new roles could be created.

The plans are due to be discussed at a virtual meeting of the borough council’s planning committee on Thursday.

And ahead of that meeting, a report prepared by the authority’s planning committee has recommended that the scheme, which is part of a wider redevelopment site, be approved.

The report states: “The development represents investment into what has become a dormant site within a strategic development allocation and could serve as a catalyst for continued investment and growth within the area.

"The mixed range of employment opportunities this scheme provides are welcomed and are obtainable by both the surrounding residents and the populous further afield due to a range of public transport interchanges and the commercial parade, with its greater flexibility of uses, will provide much need local facilities.

"Overall, the scheme, subject to compliance with the proposed conditions, is considered to satisfy the three pillars of sustainability and therefore the application is recommended for approval."

A document submitted to the council on behalf of the applicant said: "The Porsche dealership will be a gateway feature for the area and will be the source of a positive multiplier effect for other prestigious and leading brands and businesses who will want to enjoy the associative benefits of location in the area once the Porsche dealership is established.”
