Plans for new apartments on the edge of Liverpool city centre are set to be approved by the council.
Proposals from SEP Construction Services would see a building up to six storeys high built on land between Marlborough Street and Pickop Street.
The development, which would house 26 apartments, is set to go before the council’s planning committee next week for approval.
A previous proposal for the development to consist entirely of studio flats has been changed to provide some one and two bed apartments.
However, while praising the introduction of some larger apartments, the area’s three ward councillors said they still had concerns about the development in their submission to the council.
In their submission, councillors Nick Small, Maria Toolan and Christine Bnaks said the addition of larger flats meant the development would not become student accommodation by default but said they were concerned about the proximity of the development to other buildings.
Their statement said: “Residents remain concerned about overdevelopment, with the development being very close both to neighbouring blocks on Marlborough Street and the back of the Glassworks development on Vauxhall Road and the bungalows on Midghall Street.
“Residents have contacted the councillors about this and believe that this would cause challenges for them in terms of lack of privacy and noise and anti-social behaviour, especially for those living on Midghall Street, many of whom are older people.”
A business that sits next to the site, J Beattie and Son’s, has also objected to the proposals, saying the development’s location would not be compatible with its business activities.
Despite the objections, planners have recommended the proposals be approved subject to a legal agreement that would see the developer pay just over £84,000 in section 106 contributions.
The council’s planning committee will meet next Tuesday to consider the proposals.
