Plans for new housing development in Glasgow's east end

The east end of Glasgow could be set for a new housing development.

A planning application has been submitted to the council for the creation of 43 houses and flats in Altyre Street, south of Trainard Avenue.

The vacant brownfield site, just off Tollcross Road, was most recently used as an overflow car park for the 2014 Commonwealth Games after three-storey residential flats were demolished in 2010.

Tollcross Housing Association is behind the bid, and they're using Page\Park Architects to design the estate, which will feature a range of housing including two-bedroom homes, three-level townhouses and wheelchair accessible flats.

A statement contained in the report which will go before council planners reads: "Tollcross Housing Association are looking to increase the amount of family housing in the area, and so are proposing a scheme which has a high proportion of houses.

"Page\Park Architects has explored with the association ways of combining flats and houses to create a housing development with an urban scale and the amenity of a conventional housing scheme. Uniquely, the association own properties on either side of the road, which gives opportunities not only to improve the built environment, but also the streetscape.

"This development is divided into three equally sized blocks of three storeys, with vehicular access to the rear court in the middle and at the south of the development to enable off-street parking."

If given the green light by councillors, construction work for the development would begin next year.
