Plans for new hot food takeaway in Ryhope lodged with council

A bid to open a new hot food takeaway in a city suburb has been lodged with council planners.

Earlier this month, a 'change of use' application was submitted for 1 Lynden Road, Ryhope, adjacent to the Nisa store.

This includes transforming part of the ground floor into a hot food takeaway alongside a side extension.

Plans were originally submitted for the site in 2015 but were knocked back by Sunderland City Council over several issues.

This included the impact on the character and appearance of the area, highway safety and noise disturbance to residential properties.

According to planning documents as "local support remains high" applicants have decided resurrect the scheme.

If approved, the building's ground floor bay window will be revamped to create a new entrance for the takeaway with a extension aiming to create a food preparation area.

The fence along the boundary between 2 Lynden Road will also be replaced with a two metre high wall.

And a single continuous white line will also be placed along the whole site to "deter on-street parking opposite the bus stop."

According to plans, the takeaway will create employment opportunities including one full-time and two part-time jobs.

Applicants have also reduced closing times to 8.30pm - in line with the Nisa store - and pledged to provide dedicated off-street parking for both sites.

A final decision is expected to be made on the plans by Thursday, October 20 following a period of council consultation.

Public comments can be made in writing until Friday, September 6.
