A former dairy in south Liverpool could be turned into new homes under plans submitted to Liverpool Council.
The former Hanley’s Dairy in Woolton Village could soon be transformed, with four new homes built, while two existing cottages on the site would be renovated, as would the dairy’s gatehouse.
The dairy lies on the edge of Woolton Village, close to Woolton Golf Club, Woolton Woods and Camp Hill.
Submissions from the applicant’s agents to the council said the new homes will provide much needed modern accommodation in Woolton while being constructed in a way that is sympathetic to the site’s heritage.
The submission said: “We consider the proposed refurbishment of cottage and gatehouse dwellings to be sensitive to the context and setting of historic Woolton Village.
“We believe that the proposed new housing is of a very high standard, and that this level of high quality housing is necessary within this affluent south Liverpool village, that offers very few examples of contemporary standards of dwelling, design and current methods of construction.
“We strongly support the proposals on the grounds that the general arrangement of new dwellings on the site is interwoven with the existing fabric, and is harmonious with, and adds positive qualities to, its context.”
The new homes built within the site are each set to be two storeys tall and constructed from red brick with tiled roofs.
Liverpool Council’s planning department will now consider the proposals.
