Plans for new fast food restaurant and drive-thru in Stanley revealed

Plans have been lodged for a new fast food restaurant and drive-thru in County Durham.

The single-storey restaurant would be built on a car park on Ritson Street, in Stanley, and would be adjacent to McDonald’s.

A planning application has been lodged with Durham County Council, with the occupier of the unit still to be confirmed.

In a planning statement by Building Design Northern, it states: “The proposal is to erect a single-storey fast food restaurant with a clockwise drive-thru which runs around the proposed building, while incorporating a car park with 12 parking bays in the south east corner of the site for customers. This includes a disabled parking space.

“The access to the proposed site is to remain as existing from Ritson Street.

“The existing Stanley Central Club car park that is adjacent to the proposed site will be unaffected.

“Vehicular access to the McDonald’s restaurant will also be unaffected, with a dropped kerb access to the existing car park already in place.

“The unit has been designed with the emphasis on the drive-thru usage, with a large proportion of the custom coming from takeaway customers.

"The proposed building is designed to provide a fast-food restaurant that is of similar commercial appearance to buildings in the surrounding area. Examples of these buildings include McDonald’s, Asda and Aldi.

It adds: “The proposed single-storey building is to have an approximate area of 215m²."

It comes after McDonald’s opened in May last year, with Aldi and Home Bargains also opening in the town.
