Plans for a new takeaway on the Whitesands have been met with disapproval by a neighbouring business.
A submission has been made to the council for a new eatery where Klic Cars is situated.
However, there has been an objection from Nelson Brown’s salon which would sit above the takeaway.
In a letter to the council opposing the plans Mr Brown highlights potential issues with litter as well as noise from an extractor fan and smells from downstairs.
Mr Brown added: “I have many points on the objection of a hot food takeaway opening below my existing premises and business of 20 years.
“We attract clients from all over Dumfries and Galloway as well as further afield to use Dumfries as a shopping town and to fertilise the local
economy.
“This will be jeopardised and is actually against Dumfries and Galloway Council’s three year old local plan.
“It’s fairly well known now that Dumfries and Galloway Council have a Local Development Plan which supports policies to protect some development proposals from others of a non-conforming use.”
Mr Brown added that the plan states new proposals should be “compatible” with other neighbouring existing businesses which he feels is not the case here.
He said: “Each morning the street will be littered with castaway empty takeaway cartons. Yes thank goodness for the excellent local plan that Dumfries has.
“Clearly this planning application proposal for a hot food takeaway at this location is a non-conforming use.
A decision will be made on the application at a later date.
