Plans for new bowling alley and mini golf centre on Bristol's harbourside

Plans have been unveiled for a major leisure facility in Bristol which would include a bowling alley and mini golf centre.

A notice has appeared on a unit in Millennium Promenade, just off Millennium Square, outlining the scheme and asking for feedback from the public on it, before a planning application is submitted to Bristol City Council early next month.

If the application is successful, the development will take up a number of empty units in the harbourside area including former restaurant The Cuban, Flingers Party World and The Triathlon Shop.

Backed by London-based investors Canada Life Investments, the facility would include 10 bowling lanes and three mini golf courses.

The notice reads: "Canada Life Investments are pleased to announce proposals affecting the future of Building 11, Explore Lane and are keen to hear your views.

"A planning application is being prepared for submission at the beginning of February 2020 for the combination of Unit 2 (previously The Cuban and Flingers Party World) and Unit 3 (which has never been occupied) to create a new ground floor leisure unit for use as a ten-lane indoor bowling centre, plus the provision of a mezzanine floor above the combined units and over Unit 1 (previously The Triathlon Shop and Beyond The Wall) for use as a three course indoor golf centre.

"The proposals seek to contribute towards the Council's aspirations for Explore Lane, which is located on a 'Leisure Use Frontage' in the Bristol Central Areas Plan (part of Bristol City Council's Local Plan).

"Whilst members of the public will be able to make representation to Bristol City Council once the application is lodged, Canada Life Investments would be pleased to hear your views on the proposals beforehand and would welcome your feedback."

The Triathlon Shop closed in May 2018 while The Cuban closed in July 2019, leaving prominent vacant spaces on the row of shops and restaurants.

If approved, the facility will also take up a unit which has never previously been occupied.
