Plans for more than 1,000 solar panels at British Geological Survery site in Keyworth

There are plans to install more than 1,000 solar panels at the British Geological Survey site in Keyworth.

The Solar Car Port would be installed at its grounds just off Nicker Hill if given the go-ahead by planners.

The port, which would be placed in the car park, and is designed to meet a high proportion of its electricity needs, reducing its CO2 emissions.

1,104 solar panels would be installed if Rushcliffe Borough Council approves the plans.

The applicants state: "The proposed Solar PV development would deliver an economic benefit to the local economy through income to a local farm business and a wider benefit to the UK economy.

"The negative impacts of the development are very limited and of a temporary nature, once operational the scheme would not generate significant levels of noise or traffic and every effort has been made to turn potential impacts into enhancement measures."

The port would be expected to provide energy for the site for at least 25 years and are estimated to only take eight weeks to install.

The output generated at the port would be 469.2kWp (kilowatts peak) and 100% of the electricity would be used on-site.

The application will now be considered by Rushcliffe Borough Council's planning committee.
