Plans for 'massive' apartments are no surprise in Nottingham

Residents who live in The Meadows have described a proposed development for 141 flats as “massive.”

The proposed development would be a single building which steps down in height from eight floors on the front to Crocus Street to four storeys adjacent to Meadows Way. If plans go ahead, the development will consist of 141 housing units. a total of 44 parking spaces will be provided.

Neighbours in The Meadows have shared their views on the proposal. Shara Kenton, 35 who lives in The Meadows, said if the proposal for new flats goes ahead it will be an “ideal” place for people to live.

She said: “I don’t see a problem with it, there’s already Saffron Court across the street and the Hicking Building but 141 new apartments is massive. It’s a very quiet area in this part of The Meadows and that all could very well change with more people in the area.”

Shara continued and said: “I live closer to the precinct so a plan for new houses here doesn’t necessarily affect me but it’s an ideal location to live. You have the train station, town, tram and bus services on your doorstep.”

Norman Heathly, 89 who is retired and has lived in The Meadows for 50 years, said he feels The Meadows already has “plenty of flats.”

He said: “It’s the best thing nowadays to turn an unused building into flats. The Meadows has plenty of flats but that doesn’t stop more coming.”

Norman continued and said: “People need places to live, you can’t argue with that but it seems like all these flats are being chucked down to this end of The Meadows, the building could be used for something else.”

Cara Endem, 34 lives in the city Ccntre and is self employed, feels like flats being built in The Meadows is “to be expected.”

Cara said: “The Meadows is so close to the city centre so it’s convenient for many people. I don’t think that this area specifically would do well with a shop or anything like that unless you live in one of these flats then it’s a bit of an odd area.

Cara added: “I spend a lot of time in The Meadows and know many people here and I couldn’t see any of them having a problem with the apartments. If the building is unused it would surely be better having a purpose than not.”
