Plans for mansions on Bulloch Harbour given go-ahead despite hundreds of objections

A controversial plan to build luxury mansions and apartments along a South Dublin seafront has been given the go-ahead by An Bord Pleanala.

Bartra Property Group have been given permission for three 3-story luxury villas and two apartments as well as a cafe on Bulloch Harbour in Dalkey - despite 100 of objections being lodged and an inspector recommending An Bord Pleanala refuse it.

Locals fear putting the development in will see the harbour "turn private" and have also raised concerns over regular flooding during the stormy weather.

People Before Profit TD Richard Boyd Barrett said he is "utterly shocked" at the news and that "the whole nature of the harbour will be destroyed".

He said: "I am utterly shocked that Bartra Developers have been given planning permission for this development in Bullock Harbour.

"The plan for 3 412sqm 3 storey mansions with roof gardens that front out onto the rocks will turn this beautiful public amenity harbour into an elite residential area.

"Bullock is used by local fishermen, all sorts of marine leisure and people of all ages as a public amenity.  The rocks to the rear of the harbour are used for swimming off.

"All of this, along with the residents of the harbour itself make for a very unique place in South County Dublin, the whole nature of the harbour will be destroyed by this development."
