Plans for 'Kill The Bill' protest to take place in Nottingham

A protest against the Government's controversial Policing Bill is being planned in Nottingham.

A Facebook event has been published from community organisation Next Gen Movement, which also hosted a Black Lives Matter event last year.

It is planned for Saturday, March 27 from 4pm at Forest Recreation Ground.

People have been asked to attend the protest next weekend with a "mask, placards and something to bang".

In Bristol this weekend, thousands gathered in the first major protest against the Government's controversial Police and Crime Bill.

Similarly to the Bristol demonstration, the Nottingham event poster uses the hashtag 'Kill the Bill'.

It's a reference to attempts to end the controversial law proposal that would give police and the Home Secretary increased powers to stop protests.

The Facebook page states: "We are inviting all woman and allies to gather on Forest Rec to mobilise against all forms of police violence, gendered violence and the Policing Bill.

"Bring a mask, placards and something to bang - let’s make some noise!"

It adds: "We are deeply concerned that the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill seeks to further curtail the right to protest, to gather, and to have a voice - this is a threat to UK democracy.

"We share the concerns that this bill ignores recommendations from Gypsy, Traveller and Roma community groups and rights organisations, and that the proposed measures would be harmful and discriminatory to these communities."
