Plans for Glasgow Airport strike suspended for talks to go ahead

Planned strike action at Glasgow Airport tomorrow has been suspended to allow for more talks to take place.

Unite confirmed this week that another eight days of strikes are on the table following a ballot of members who refused the latest pay offer.

However, Glasgow airport confirmed today that the strike set to take place between 8am and noon tomorrow would not be going ahead.

A Glasgow Airport spokesman said: “Unite has confirmed it has suspended the planned industrial action for Wednesday, July 3 in order for further talks to take place.

“Industrial action is still planned for Friday, July 5 between 9.30am and 1.30pm during which our robust, compliant and safe contingencies will be in place to ensure passengers continue to be unaffected by the actions of Unite.”

Further strike action is also set to go ahead on Friday and also at various times from July 11 to 15.

This action comes after 81 per cent also voted to continue the dispute surrounding pay and pensions.

Glasgow Airport is currently offering a three percent pay increase for 2019 back dated to January and a guarantee of three percent for 2020.

A bonus payment of £600 is also on the table.

The full scheduled dates set for Glasgow Airport are as follows: July 5, 5.30am-1.30pm; July 11, 1.30pm-5.30pm; July 12, 5.30am-9.30am; July 13, 7am-11am; July 14, 4pm-8pm; July 15, 5.30am-9.30am.
