Plans for glamping pods on the site of Grade II listed mansion in Carmarthenshire

Glamping pods could be built on land at a Grade II listed country mansion in Carmarthenshire.

Plans have been put forward for 15 log pods with garden enhancements in a bid to boost tourism at Llanmiloe House, between Laugharne and Pendine.

If given the go ahead, the timber pods would be built in the grounds of the property, which dates back to the 1720s, and would feature a bed area, as well as a lounge, kitchen/diner and a shower.

The garden and grounds associated with Llanmiloe House are also registered Grade II, which attributes the same level of interest as the house.

A heritage statement and impact assessment, carried out by DE Landscape & Heritage Ltd, states: "The 'WigWams' are modest, small-scale and potentially temporary structures standing just over 3m tall, 3.5m wide at their base and 6m long.

"The proposed development intends to respect and enhance the historic and existing boundaries of the area and any associated surviving hedging."

The pods would be clad in timber and have discrete windows at their rear end, with a single roof light and French style windows providing access and light at their front end.

They would most likely be positioned facing into the site to "provide community and privacy".

A design and planning statement by Hayston Developments & Planning Ltd, on behalf of the applicants at Llanmiloe House, details: "The proposed tourism accommodation would be in the form of 15 timber pods generally sited around the perimeter of the site, with a couple of offshoots towards the north-east corner to reflect the shape of the site.

"The proposed pods would be directly accessed off an internal access road with one parking space allocated to each unit.

It added: "Internally, the pods would provide simple accommodation in the form of an open plan kitchen/diner, living and bed area, with a shower room.

"The pods would open out onto a modest deck area.

"The countryside location is considered appropriate and the proposal is highly dependent on the attributes of the site, being directly associated with linked-enhancements to the gardens of Llanmiloe House."
