Plans for 'five-star' toilets in Dublin city where using the loo will cost €3.50 a go

Dublin’s Duke Street has been confirmed as the location of a new ‘five-star’ toilet block thanks to Irish U-Luu owner John Nagle.

Work has reportedly begun on the luxury loo development which is due to open in the city centre in 2022 for those who are willing to pay €3.50 a go.

The project is being overseen by Nagle, a Connemara businessman, who opened a similar bathroom development in Clifden earlier this summer, called U-Luu.

The new structure will house 24 toilets and six showers - costing a tenner per use.

It will be open twelve hours a day, seven days a week, and will be maintained and run by around 12-15 full-time staff.

Nagle has said he hopes to open the doors to the new facility in Dublin’s city centre by Easter of 2022, with price plans in place for use.

According to the Irish Times, you will pay €3.50 for single-use, €5 for a day pass, €20 for a week pass, and €120 for unlimited use for a year.

Nagle also has plans to develop a network of wheelchair-accessible bathrooms across Ireland, which will feature baby-changing facilities, showers, and vanity areas as well.

Speaking about his latest venture in Dublin, Mr Nagle said: “Opening in Dublin is a no-brainer.

"We are aiming to have Duke Street ready to go by Easter, but we do have to go through the planning process first."
