Plans for Brits to holiday abroad to be announced on June 29

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps says the Government is working 'behind the scenes' on plans that will allow Brits to holiday abroad this year.

Asked about the creation of air bridges between the UK and other countries, Mr Shapps told LBC Radio: “Behind the scenes we are working on it.

“Working and looking at and starting to work with countries with whom air bridges, or international travel corridors as they will rightly be known – because it could be sea, ferries or trains – we’re working with those countries to do that.

“We won’t be in a position to announce which countries – where reciprocal arrangements go in place – until the 29th.

“So don’t expect anything this week, I think I’m right in saying it’s only the end of next week.”

The arrangements would mean that foreign tourists from the countries involved could visit the Uk without quarantine, and Brits could visit those countries under the same terms.

The UK is reported to have been working with the EU on a plan - which could allow holidays in Spain, Greece, Portugal, Italy and the rest of Europe.
