Plans announced for new Leeds United murals in the city - here's how you can be a part of it

Leeds United murals are set to takeover streets across the city as part of an exciting new project.

The Leeds United Supporters’ Trust has joined forces with Adam Duffield, Nicolas Dixon and Andy McVeigh to create a number of murals themed around the Whites.

Following the recent success of the Bielsa The Redeemer mural in Wortley, which was designed by Nicolas Dixon and supported by Andy McVeigh, aka Burley Banksy, and the Champions Elland Road mural, designed by Adam Duffield, the Trust want to continue adding a distinctly Leeds United feel to our streets.

The artwork will aim to celebrate the legacy and heritage of the club, as well as moments from the 2019/2020 promotion winning season. The next mural will be a poignant one, based in Pudsey, paying tribute to the late Jack Charlton, Norman Hunter and Trevor Cherry - this will be designed by Nicholas.

Adam Duffield is currently working on a design of Leeds favourite Pablo Hernandez and one of his memorable goal celebrations. Andy McVeigh, famed for his colourful communication boxes around the city will also be supporting with other Leeds-themed art.

Other mural ideas include the Leeds player’s centenary celebration in front of the East Stand, a Gary Speed tribute and much more.

The Leeds United Supporters’ Trust is now calling on local businesses across the city to come forward with potential gable ends to help bring these murals to life around the city. Anybody interested should send a photo and some details of location to info@leedsunitedtrust.com.

Pete Emmerson, chairman of the Leeds United Supporters’ Trust said “After seeing the amazing reaction to the recent Leeds United murals, we thought it would be an exciting and expressive project to work with these Leeds based artists and for us to showcase our passion for the club and how it unites our city.

“Our aim is to bring these celebratory pieces of artwork right across the city and we would like our fans to be involved by sharing their own mural ideas, designs and locations in their local areas.”

Nicolas Dixon said: “After the amazing global success of the Bielsa mural in Wortley it’s a real honour to be able to continue to bring this artwork to life.

“As a lifelong Leeds fan I’m really proud to be able to combine my two passions - art and Leeds United. I’m looking forward to being able to spread some more joy around the city.”

Adam Duffield, said: “As a Leeds fan it was a great honour to work with Mateusz Klich recently on the Champions artwork outside Elland Road. I love doing this style of art and I’m looking forward to getting stuck in and working with the Supporters’ Trust to bring more of this to life across the city.”

Andy McVeigh, aka The Burley Banksy, said: “I love brightening up the streets around Elland Road and I get so much positive feedback on my Leeds United-themed artwork on the communications boxes. I’m just happy that I can keep doing what I love doing and celebrating the club's history around the city.”

As a not for profit group, the Trust is asking the Leeds community for donations to help fund the ongoing costs of the artists’ time and their materials. A fundraising page has been set up where the aim is to initially raise £15,000 to kick start the project. You can find out more here.
