Plans for 600 new homes in Partington that will form part of a £100m housing development have been approved on condition the first 74 must be 'affordable'.
Blueprints for Trafford's largest developments was submitted to the town hall by Galliford Try Partnerships and Trafford Housing Trust, who have earmarked Heath Farm Lane, which backs onto Carrington Moss, in Partington, to house the scheme.
The plan is for a mix of one and five-bed properties and apartments for private sale, shared ownership and affordable rent.
The first phase of the development will see 148 homes built on the former gas works site, but 50pc must be available on the 'affordable' housing market.
While outline planning permission for the remaining 452 homes, alongside new public open space, was also rubber-stamped during Thursday's planning meeting.

Speaking in favour of the application development director of Trafford Housing Trust, Graeme Scott, said the scheme would help the borough's housing 'crises'.
"It's a carefully thought out development that will meet the needs of Partington," he added.
"This is by far the largest development the trust has been involved in, but one we are keen to get on with."
Coun Daniel Bunting welcomed the scheme.
"I'm impressed with the layout," he said.

"It will provide a huge boost to the local economy - and any negative points are significantly outweighed by what the development will deliver."
Couns Aiden Williams and Karen Barcley echoed their colleague's comments.
"It will be a lovely place to live," said Coun Barclay.
However, Coun Geraldine Coggins said she was concerned about the lack of school places in the area - and the loss of trees and hedgerows.
"Although, I do appreciate the affordable homes being provided in the first phase of the development," she added.
Committee members voted unanimously in favour of the application.
