Plans to install a 5G mast just off a residential street have been rejected by a council.
An application for the 18 metre connection mast was submitted to St Helens Council, to be put up off Sutton Park Drive. Proposals included six antennas, a wraparound equipment cabinet at the base of the monopole, two equipment cabinets, one electric meter cabinet and ancillary development.
Amid objections from neighbours, the council's planning committee rejected the application, deeming the structure "visually detrimental".

One resident submitted a 12 page letter of objection, citing "dangers of electromagnetic radiation" as one of their key reasons for opposing the mast.
Electromagnetic frequencies are produced by anything that uses electricity, including microwaves, power lines and computers.
Case officer Alex Ball said in a report: "The site is positioned in a prominent location, with the open character of the area being a key feature and there is limited backdrop screening."
It was added the open space "plays a welcome relief within the street scene, this is a pleasant feature to the area" and the proposed siting of the monopole and equipment "would appear in stark contrast" to this.
It was added the mast "would be positioned in close proximity to a number of residential properties" and that it "will add visual clutter".
The plans were for the monopole mast were refused.
