Plans for 40 new homes and 90 bed care facility in Sefton

Plans for 40 new homes and a 90-bed care facility have been submitted to Sefton Council.

Paddock Johnson wants to build 32 houses, two bungalows, six flats and a three-storey block of “extra care” apartments on a 5.5 acre piece of land off Sandbrook Road in Ainsdale.

As well as residential buildings, there would be a respite centre which offers accommodation and other services for people with autism.

The scheme also features a new access road off Sandbrook Road, 137 car parking spaces, open space and landscaping.

The respite centre would have an additional 13 parking spaces for visitors and staff.

Documents on Sefton Council’s website say the extra care facility would be for people aged 55 and over, and will also include a bistro, hair salon, residents’ lounge and a “hobbies room”.

The report goes on to say: “An extra care facility of this size and scale will have an impact on the surrounding area.

“This could include the freeing up of existing properties within the area, as local residents ‘down-size’.”

The site currently comprises of numerous disused buildings, a former rehabilitation centre and a care home.

If plans are approved, these will be demolished to make way for the new complex.

Planning documents say the homes would be a mix of rented and ownership.
