Plans for 278 homes on Liverpool waterfront clear final hurdle

Plans for a large new housing development on Liverpool’s waterfront have cleared their final hurdle.

Proposals to build 278 homes in a tower on William Jessop Way in Liverpool city centre were backed by councillors last year but approval was dependent on Peel and Your Housing Group, the applicants, coming to a legal agreement with the council.

Newly published documents on the council website indicate that a legal agreement between the developer and the council was signed last week, meaning development can now go ahead.

The current plans would see a tower 31 storeys high built, with another, smaller, 11-storey section next to it.

A separate but similar proposal for the site had previously been approved in 2018.

The same site was the location of the huge Shanghai Towers proposal, which would have had 55 storeys.

Speaking at the planning committee meeting where the new plans were approved last October, a representative for the applicants said: “It has been redesigned and resubmitted to ensure the proposals are commercially viable and the applicants have worked with their preferred local contractor to ensure this £50m development and investment in the city can be delivered.

“Both applicants, Peel and Your Housing Group, have a history of delivering high quality development in the city.”
