Plans for 24 hour drinking at The Adelphi prompt calls for revamp

People are calling for The Adelphi hotel to be revamped after plans were submitted to serve alcohol to guests 24 hours a day.

The famous hotel on Ranelagh Street has submitted an application to Liverpool Council to change its alcohol licence.

A short summary on the council’s website states that the hotel’s owner, Britannia Hotels, has applied to: “Amend the plans of the premises, remove all annex 2 conditions and replace with new conditions and make alcohol available to residents and bona fide guests 24 hours a day”.

The move would significantly increase the number of hours during which the Adelphi’s bar can serve alcohol.

Currently, its licence only permits it do so from midday until 2am from Monday to Saturday and until midnight on Sunday.

The plans left ECHO readers calling for the hotel to be modernised before any other changes are made.

Mike Scrase said: "Such a shame as its a fantastic building and to see it being run into the ground is awful."

Bobby Spinks said: "Who in their right mind would go in there for a bevvy?"

Other readers were concerned what alcohol being available 24 hours a day would mean for the city.

While Marie Buckley added: "That kip needs a revamp. Crying out for a proper owner or investor to restore to former glory. Shame how dilapidated and run down it is."

Jonathan Poulter said: "Need something to do I suppose because it's not a place I'd wanna sleep."
