Plans for 200 new homes in Gretna submitted to Dumfries and Galloway Council

Detailed plans to build 200 homes on part of the former Gretna Golf Club have been submitted to the council.

The 28.5 acres site already has planning permission in principle for 200 homes and was acquired by Alba Developments last year from previous owners.

Shane Ticklepenny, managing director of Alba Developments, said: “We are excited to see things moving after having submitted the detailed planning application for our Gretna development to the council.

“This site will help the local area and bring much needed family and affordable homes to the area.

“We are very proud of our plans at Gretna and hope it will inject new life to the village.

“Our investment will bring an economic boost and attract new families to the area.”

If approved, the site adjacent to Raydale Park, will see two and three-bed bungalows and terraces being built, as well as four to five-bed family homes along with elements of open space.

The 9-hole Kirtle View golf club on former agricultural land was in use from 1990 to 2005 when the owner decided it was no longer viable.

The 48-acre site was sold off in two parts.

Early original plans by previous owners to build 200 new homes and a 100-bed nursing home on their part of the site near Raydale had a bumpy ride with a number of objectors complaining that it lay outwith Gretna’s settlement boundary and was contrary to a number of planning policies, including those for residential development in the countryside.

Objections were also raised that there was insufficient demand for the proposed houses.

The new detailed plans by Alba Developments include a cycleway and footpath connections through the new neighbourhood and thes urrounding footbath network.

The company said that 20 per cent of the development will provide affordable homes.
