Plans for 100 new homes in Bulwell Forest branded 'a shame' for the area

Residents said it is a 'shame' to lose their local green space to new homes which are planned for the area.

Plans to build more than 100 houses in Bulwell Forest were approved in December after significant moderations were made by developers.

Councillors last month dismissed the plans, calling them ‘half-baked’ - but changes were made to the designs including the brick colour and road layout, and the plans were approved by Nottingham City Council’s planning committee on December 16.

One is for 45 homes on the South West Section Of Bulwell Academy Henry Mellish Site, and the other for 57 houses on the former school ground on the junction of Piccadilly, Brooklyn Road.

Amanda Wilson, 43, can see the Piccadilly field from her home and walks her dog there.

She said: "It’s a shame but I can see the need for housing as well.

"It’s been in the making for a while. But there are concerns about parking. Where will all the cars go?

"When two schools are open properly it’ll be busy."

My dog is getting old and I literally live next to it so it’s a nice walk for her. There are other places to go like the golf course."

Speaking of plans for the Henry Mellish site, resident Sally Morrison, who lives near the area, added: "It would be nice for it to be something other than houses but I’m not sure what.

"I’m quite concerned about it really because I live nearby.

"The parking, noise and work lorries could be an issue for us when the work starts.

"But I'd rather it wasn't just wasteland."
