Plans emerge for new 'casual dining' bar and restaurant in Ouseburn

A new 70-seat bar and restaurant is planned for Hoults Yard.

The "casual" venue, named 2 Knives Bar and Kitchen, would sell food and drink including beer and burgers.

A licensing application has been submitted to Newcastle City Council for the proposed Ouseburn venue.

It shows the Walker Road bar would close at 10pm most nights, with an earlier finish on a Sunday.

"2 Knives Bar and Kitchen would offer a casual dining experience for families, individuals and workers," states the application.

The venue's management team includes a bar manager who has 14 years experience in charge of Wetherspoon pubs

Papers show it has capacity for 40 customers to sit inside, and a further 30 outside.

Management declined to comment further on the plans at this stage.

However, licensing documents add: "There will be a small bar serving six different draught products, one hand pull will always be provided by a local brewery.

"That will actively encourage interest from tourist's who plan to visit Hoults Yard for its historical content.

"A fully fitted kitchen will work alongside the bar providing a range of meals that will include burgers, deli deals, deserts and coffee."

It adds that surrounding office workers will be able to get a discount on takeaway meals.

A decision over the licence will be made by the authority on a future date.

Around 100 businesses are based on Hoults Yard on what was once one of the most famous pottery factories in the world, Mailings Pottery.
