'Plans are in place' - Lee Johnson on Bristol City being 'bold' in the summer transfer market

Bristol City have an exciting summer ahead whatever happens this coming weekend against Hull City.

Head coach Lee Johnson gave a hint of what to expect at the pre-match press conference as he reflected on what has been a good campaign, with the club set to finish in the top eight of the league whatever, their highest league position for 11 years, and a fifth straight year of improvement.

There is, of course, still a chance that the Robins could yet make the play-offs and even get promoted.

But Johnson admits that it is only an 'outside chance' as the club relies on favourable results from elsewhere.

"I think there have been so many achievements this season," said Johnson when commenting on City's good record away from home.

"I think it's a real collective in terms of... I could chuck a few out, the minutes our U23s have played this season has been the best ever for a  Bristol City side and strides are being made off the field in terms of infrastructure and facilities.

"On the pitch we've had some made ones such as the first win on New Year's Day for the first time in 100 years.

"Record transfer sales and we've managed to get better as well. There are so many areas of performance from the players, fans, staff, technical staff, administration staff that have driven us on... I think we're very proud of that.

"We want to finish on 72 points and we hope that's enough, but if it's not then we'll have a terrific platform to drive on from.

"I will be bold in the summer and I'll be bold in my presentation to the board as I believe we've got the platform now to kick on and kick on properly.

"Credit goes to everybody for what has been a good season," explained the head coach.

The comments fall into line with what we reported recently that according to our sources the Robins are set to be busy this summer.

And Johnson says there is an opportunity for City ahead regardless of Sunday's crucial match.

"What's important is that we're really aggressive in our forward drive and we pick up that steam," he elaborated.

"I think there's a chance of stagnation in the Championship next season because of finances and big clubs' positions.

"Yes, we've got areas to improve but we're striving hard to do that.

"Plans are in place in almost every weak area to spend and improve and be one of the most well run clubs in the top two divisions," the Bristol City boss said.
