Plans approved to build flats on site of former HSBC bank in Boroughbridge

A scheme to turn an empty bank into apartments has been approved by council planners.

Khalastchi applied to Harrogate Council to transform the former HSBC building in Bridge Street, Boroughbridge, into six flats along with parking.

The bank closed in 2016 and was one of three in the region to be shut by the company due to falling use.

Now, it will be used to provide homes after no objections were received during the consultation process.

The application to the council stated: “The proposed development makes efficient use of this redundant building, demonstrating a carefully considered approach in order to achieve a scheme that is befitting of the location.

“The scheme sits comfortably within its context, utilizing the existing building with six high-quality apartments.

“The proposal in its mass, scale, detail, material and external landscaping, in keeping with Boroughbridge, as a result, we believe that the proposal can be deemed to be an appropriate development.”

As part of the plans the existing vault will be demolished.#
