Plans afoot for 'Mini Magnum' sports facility in North Ayrshire

Plans for a new 'Mini Magnum' sports and leisure facility in North Ayrshire are gathering pace.

Ayrshire Live revealed last month how a new proposed 1152 sq m indoor centre could be built at Kilwinning Community Sports Club (KSC).

Bosses want to transform the shell of a building gifted by NPL, operators of the old ICI Nylon Plant Site in Ardeer, into a multi-purpose facility.

The dismantled frame structure was delivered on site earlier today and KSC, in partnership with Kilwinning Rangers, are in the process of putting together a planning application to present to North Ayrshire Council.

If given the green light, the centre will house basketball, tennis, badminton and netball courts and potentially other sports with provision for small-sided games, and space for local clubs to use.

Bosses are now seeking funding after estimating it will cost between £150,000 and £180,000 to get the project off the ground.

They are hopeful that the facility could open as early as this year if everything goes according to plan.

KSC and Kilwinning Rangers would like to thank Strathclyde Demolition, R&L Miller, Brian Murray Architect and Benslie Digger Driver for their help with the project so far.
