Planning lawyer switches firms for partner role

Respected planning lawyer Fraser Mitchell has been appointed as a partner in Shoosmiths' Edinburgh real estate team.

He moves from Shepherd and Wedderburn , where he was a senior associate in its planning and environment group.

Mitchell has experience in all aspects of planning and development, including strategic advice on planning applications and appeals, negotiation of planning agreements and advising on roads issues and compulsory purchase procedure and compensation.

The University of Edinburgh graduate has also sat on the Scottish Property Federation Planning and Development Committee.

Steve Dougherty, partner and head of real estate for Shoosmiths in Scotland, said:  “Fraser is a highly regarded planning lawyer whose breadth of specialist knowledge, including of Scotland’s planning system and latest legislation, will be invaluable to our expanding client base of volume housebuilders, developers, property funds, student housing and affordable housing providers and commercial developers .”

Mitchell is the third new partner created in Shoosmiths’ 24-strong real estate team in Scotland since May. Sheelagh Cooley was recently promoted to real estate partner and Barry McKeown joined from Gunnercooke Lip in London.
