Planning launched for beer garden in a West Lothian pub within listed building

An application for a beer garden has been launched at a pub within a listed building in West Lothian.

West Lothian Council validated the planning application from Westgate Brewery on Monday, April 26, for the formation of beer garden/outdoor seating area.

The listed Old Post Office Bar building at 29-31 High Street, Linlithgow, trades as a restaurant and licensed bar but is hoping to renovate vacant ground on their premises.

Under the Scottish Government’s Covid-19 restrictions people can only drink alcohol in the beer gardens of pubs.

A spokesperson for The Old Post Office Linlithgow explained the plan in the design summary on the planning application.

They said: “The listed building currently trades as a restaurant and licensed bar.

“The proposal is to provide an external decking and seating areas with lighting to the vacant ground to the rear of the premises which is currently unused.

“The mature trees and greenery will remain untouched with this proposal and additional landscaping added to enhance the space.

“The proposals do not alter the existing building or character of the premises.

“There is up additional escape route from the high-level rear area to the existing service yard owned by the property.

“The existing boundary wall is of a substantial height providing privacy of the area to the users of the Old Post Office”
