Discerning drinkers in Whitley Bay could soon be able to enjoy a quiet beverage in a relaxed environment if fresh plans for cocktail lounge are approved.

If the plans are given the go-ahead the venue, called Home Bar, would open on a premises on Victoria Terrace.

Toby William Blackburn and Katarzyna Grzekak have applied for permission to sell alcohol for consumption on the premises Wednesday to Friday 4pm to 11pm, Saturday 2pm to 11pm and 2pm to 9pm on Sunday.

An application from lodged with North Tyneside Council stated that the bar would close earlier on Sunday to avoid anti-social behaviour which it says is at its highest point at the end of the week.

It said: "We can see that Sunday has the highest rates of anti-social behaviour in this area. Keeping this in mind we plan to close early on Sunday to avoid the possibility of intoxicated patrons and adding to statistics."

In the application, the bar's owners spoke of their vision to create a "quiet and modern lounge" that is "set apart" from anything else in the area.
