Planned Star Wars movie canceled in latest setback for franchise

A planned Star Wars movie concept by writers Simon Farnaby and Paul King was canceled by Disney and Lucasfilm .
The film was rejected because its central idea revolved around a robot and did not feature key Star Wars characters, failing to meet the studio's vision for the franchise.
Farnaby told Variety that the original concept is now being redeveloped into a new sci-fi film outside of the Star Wars universe.
The cancellation adds to a series of challenges for the franchise, which has faced audience scrutiny, delayed projects and leadership changes at Lucasfilm.
Recent film installments, such as The Mandalorian and Grogu , have delivered low domestic opening weekends and received critical reviews.
